ALP Endorses Doug Applegate for U. S. Congress
Doug Applegate is running for the 49th Congressional District of California. His campaign has strong focus on rebuilding the country’s infrastructure and a belief in empowering working Americans. He is quoted as saying: “In Congress, I pledge to work diligently toward bipartisan measures that enhance economic opportunities, promote investment in infrastructure, and return jobs to our district. Congress needs to focus on measures that empower people to earn living wages which will strengthen our economy and our nation for generations to come. And that Means a Minimum $15/hr Cost-of-Living-Adjusting Livable Wage.”
On the environment and energy Applegate states: “I promise and plan on supporting legislation that actively combats global warming and climate change, and renewable energy to sustain our community well into the future. I do not accept that environmental protection and economic growth are mutually exclusive. Even the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps plan to diversify our energy array and grid with clean renewable energy so that by 2020, 50 percent of total energy consumption will come from alternative sources. Congress must respond with equal urgency for the entire nation.”
On NAFTA and the TPP he said the following: “Trade is essential to economic prosperity for all Americans and creating lasting relationships around the world. However, previous trade policies such as NAFTA have displaced American workers, created a large trade deficit, and failed to create stable and durable global relationships. I oppose the so called “fast track” for the TPP because it would remove our ability to create the best possible trade agreement. We must create an optimal trade policy that results from debate, consensus and forward thinking.”

ALP Endorses Travis Hagewood for Missouri State Representative
Travis Hagewood is running for the 31st District of Missouri's state House of Representatives. He is an auto worker and a realtor and is running as a Democrat to defend Missouri against the attack on labor. Recently, Missouri passed legislation to enact right-to-work status and it is also now on the forefront of pushing legislation to eliminate prevailing wage. Mr. Hagewood has had enough stating, "Shortly after November of 2016, something woke in me, with the Governor of Missouri going after the working people with intense pressure and fighting hard for issues like Prevailing Wage (In government contracting, a prevailing wage is defined as the hourly wage, usual benefits and overtime, paid to the majority of workers, laborers, and mechanics within a particular area.) and Right To Work (which is simply a unions busting bill that corporations have been trying to pass for many years now, it allows members of a union to not pay dues and still receive all the union benefits "freeloading") to name a few. I felt like myself and all other union members were under attack. So I started to educate myself on those issues in particular. What I found was that the elected Republican officials were backed by mega donors that were fighting to drive down wages, so that corporations and businesses can earn higher profits. I am not an economist by any stretch of the imagination, but it was plain to see. I know that my dollar is not stretching as far as it did 25 years ago, when I first started at Ford Motor Company."
